Photovoltaic Surface Layer

Each tile's top surface integrates tempered, slip-resistant solar glass with monocrystalline silicon cells at 23.4% efficiency — capturing direct and diffuse sunlight even on overcast Virginia Beach days.

Piezoelectric Kinetic Core

A ceramic piezoelectric lattice beneath the surface converts the compression of every footstep, bicycle, or vehicle into electrical charge — harvesting energy that would otherwise be lost as vibration.

Smart Micro-Inverter

Embedded power electronics aggregate both energy streams, condition the DC output, and deliver regulated power to our NexGrid mesh network — or directly to local loads like lighting and signage.

Grid-Ready Distribution

Tile clusters self-organize into micro-grids, with optional battery buffer modules. Real-time monitoring via the NexGrid dashboard tracks output, health, and ROI for every installation.

NexGrid was founded in Virginia Beach in 2019, drawn by the city's 3,100 annual hours of sunshine, 38 miles of coastline, and a municipal commitment to net-zero by 2040.

Our manufacturing facility on Corporate Landing Parkway produces over 80,000 tiles annually. Every tile is designed, tested, and warranted here — from the Oceanfront boardwalk to the Norfolk–Virginia Beach corridor.

We partner with the City of Virginia Beach, Hampton Roads Sanitation District, and private developers to embed clean energy generation into the infrastructure people walk on every day.
